About Ranji Trophy Assam
The Assam Cricket Team is a domestic cricket team which represents Assam state, and is run by Assam Cricket Association. They play various tournaments like limited overs Vijay Hazare Trophy, Twenty20, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy.
The Assam Cricket Team played the Ranji Trophy match in 1948-49 season, and the Captain was Rupert Kettle. Assam had their first match victory in the 1951-52 season by defeating Orrisa by 103 runs.
In 2006-07 season Assam won the final of Plate division. In 2009-10 season Assam entered the Elite Division (Super League) of Ranji Trophy. However in 2010-11 season due to bad performance Assam’s rank came down to the bottom. In 2011-12 Assam was relegated to the Plate Division.
In 2014-15 season Assam was promoted to the Group A of Elite Division for best performance. And for the first time in the history Assam reached the Quarter-final in 2009-10 season and reached Semi-final in the 2015-16 season.
