Ranji Trophy is always seen as a gateway to the Indian Cricket Team, as it is considered to be the best platform to impress selectors. But unfortunately in the last 6 years, only 3 players managed to enter the Indian Cricket Team. They are Rishab Pant, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari. In the the last 6 years (from the 2016-17 season of Ranji Trophy till date) only 3 players have been selected for the National Cricket Team and their names are Rishab Pant, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari. Details about their carrier and journey to the Indian Cricket Team is given below:

Rishab Pant

Rishab Pant(4 Oct 1997) is a well-known Indian National Cricketer who is been playing for the Indian Cricket Team as a Wicket-Keeper Batsman. He is widely known for his consistency in International Test matches. He made his international debut for Indian cricket team on 21 October 2018.

Rishab Pant’s Ranji Trophy debut match was on 22 Oct 2015 which was in the 2015-16 season. In the 2016-17 season of the Ranji Trophy pant scored 308 runs against Maharashtra, becoming the third-youngest Indian to score a triple century in first-class cricket. Pant also scored the fastest century in just 48 balls in the Ranji Trophy on 8 November 2016.

In January 2017, Pant was selected in India’s T20 squad for a series against England. The debut match he played against England was at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 1 February 2017 and became the youngest player to play in India’s T20 Squad at the age of 19 years. After that, he was named in India’s test squad for a series against England. On 11 September 2018, Rishab scored his first century against England and became the second youngest wicket-keeper batsman to secure a test century.

In that same month Pant made it to the one-day squad for a tour against West Indies and his debut match was on 21 October 2018. In January 2019 Pant became the first wicket-keeper Indian to score century in Australia in a test series against Australia. In January 2021 Pant became the fastest wicket-keeper batsman to reach 1000 runs in Test Cricket.

The International Cricket Council has also named Pant as the rising star of the Squad.

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Anurag Agarwal (16 February 1991) is a well-known right-handed batsman in Indian Cricket Team. He also plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket matches. He made his debut international debut for the Indian Cricket Team on 26 December 2018.

Agarwal scored his first maiden triple-century in Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra and was playing for Karnataka om November 2017. His total runs was 308. During that same month he also scored 1000 runs and became the lead run-scorer in the 2017-18 season of the Ranji Trophy. By the end of the season, his total runs were 1,106. In June 2018, BCCI awarded him the Madhavrao Scindia Award for scoring highest-run in the Ranji Trophy.

In December 2018 his name was included in India’s test squad for a tour against Australia. His debut match was on 26 December 2018. He scored 76 runs, becoming highest Indian un-sorcerer on a test debut in Australia.

In July 2019, he was included in India’s ODI squad for the ICC World Cup 2019. In October 2019 he scored his first test century against South Africa. The same day he also scored his first double-century in 371 balls. He became the second Indian opener to score a double century after Virender Sehwag against South Africa.

Hanuma Vihari

Gade Hanuma Vihari (13 October 1993) is an Indian National Cricketer who was a part Indian Cricket Team.

In October 2017 Vihari scored his first ever triple century for Andhra Pradesh in the 2017-18 season of Ranji Trophy, with a score of 302 not out. He was also the leading run-scorer of Andhra Pradesh during that season with a score of 752 runs.

In August 2018, Vihari was included in India’s Test squad for a tour against England. His debut test match against England was on 7 September 2018. In the 5th test match of the tour, he made his debut half century (56 runs off 124 balls) in the first innings.

On 25 August 2019, on a tour against West Indies, Vihari scored 93 runs off 128 balls in the first match itself. And in the second test match against West Indies Vihari scored his first Test Century. In October 2019, Vihari was selected for a test tour against South Africa. And in 2020 Vihari was selected for a test series against New Zealand where he scored half-century.

Currently, he is not a part of Team India and plays Ranji Trophy for Andhra Pradesh.
