2024 Kalinga Super Cup
The Indian Super Cup also known as Kalinga Super Cup 2024 (Sponsorship) (it was then known as Hero Super Cup for sponsorship reason) is an annual football competition which was first started on 19 February 2018, organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) . This tournament is played between the clubs of Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League.
2024 Super Cup is scheduled to begin from 9 January-28 January 2024, it is going to be a 20 days tournament. It will be organized by All India Football Federation (AIFF) in Odisha. There will total 16 teams, who will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams.
The winner of the Super Cup India will get a entry in the AFC Champions League 2 Preliminary Stage of AFC 2024-25 season, which is a gate to the FIFA Club World Cup.
Kalinga Super Cup 2024 Schedule Format
2024 Kalinga Super Cup will include 16 teams. Out of which 12 teams will be from Indian Super League (ISL), and 4 teams will be from I-League. The winner of the I-league (2023) will get a direct entry to the group stage, and rest 3 teams will also be selected from the I-league but that will include a qualifying round which will be played between the teams who have been placed in 2th-10th position. Those 9 teams teams of I-league (2023) will compete for the remaining 3 positions in the Kalinga Super Cup.
In the tournament, 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. There will be a total of 28 matches (1 playoff, 24 Group stage, 2 Semi final and 1 final) in the entire game. Each team will play one match with their opponents in the respective groups. 1 team from each group will qualify for the Semi-finals, which will be followed by the final that will be held on 28 January 2024.
Inclusion of more foreign players: The AIFF has announced that clubs can now field 6 foreign players in the starting line-ups for the Kalinga Super Cup. Many Indian Club players will be busy for the 2024 AFC Asian Cup.
But there is a condition that if 6 foreign players are included then 1 player should hold the nationality of a member of the Asian Football Federation (AFC).
2024 Kalinga Super Cup Schedule Fixtures/ Match List
The Super Cup India 2024 schedule fixtures is officially declared. There will be total 28 matches. The first match will be a play-off match between the I-league 4th position team and I-league 5th position team (Winner of that match will be placed in the Group C). Followed by 24 group stage matches from 9 Jan-22 Jan. 2 semi final round on 24 Jan and 25 Jan. And the final match of Super Cup (India) will be held on 28 Jan in Kalinga Stadium- Main Pitch.
